Thank You, Mr. Bush

Growing up to be a cowboy.

Now that Mr. Bush has left the White House, it is safe to say he accomplished at least one good thing during his Presidency; he did not allow his Attorney General to kidnap children at gunpoint and send them to communist countries (Elian Gonzalez) or attack innocent Americans causing 75 deaths (Waco Siege and Massacre).

Given President Obama’s marvelous talent to talk to his enemies without precondition, we can rest assured the Gestapo tactics of the Clinton/Reno reign will not be repeated during the current administration. Thank heaven for small favors.

Intelligence for Dummies

The learn something new everyday category.

The Wall Street Journal last Friday published an op-ed piece by California Senator Dianne Feinstein titled “Let the Senate Investigate the Interrogations.” Senator Feinstein is chairman of the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, so she ought to know of what she writes.

“The Senate Intelligence Committee is the appropriate body to conduct this review, because it is responsible for the oversight of America’s 16 intelligence agencies…”

Sixteen intelligence agencies. Your tax dollars at work.

Celebrating Earth

Go Earth!

words401 celebrates Earth Day and Earth Month. Our Earth is a wonder of beauty and mystery. Our Earth is Mother Nature.

Unfortunately, there are some devious guys and gals who have been using our wonderful Earth to promote their political agenda. This is called Earth Abuse. This is wrong.

words401 celebrates Earth for its natural wonder. Go Earth!

Safety in Numbers?

Your Lifesaver

This little history of governmental gun control has been floating around the Internet. Usually, words401 publishes original content, but this is some history we all need to keep in mind:

In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

In 1935, China established gun control. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

In 1938, Germany established gun control. From 1939 to 1945, 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.

In 1956, Cambodia established gun control. From 1975 to 1977, one million educated people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

In 1964, Guatemala established gun control. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

In 1970, Uganda established gun control. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

During the 20th Century, in the guise of gun control, nearly 56 million defenseless people were rounded up and exterminated.

Same Old Game Plan

Senator "Sheets" Byrd

On May 19, 1951, The Saturday Evening Post published an interview with the blacklisted Hollywood director Edward Dmytryk. His many films include: The Caine Mutiny, Raintree County, and The Carpetbaggers.

Being a former communist party member, Mr. Dmytryk had insights into the workings of the party. One he shared with the magazine’s readers as to why the communist party got involved with certain legal cases, “It was like everything else the commies do; they will go into a lynch case, for example, but instead of trying to help the Negroes, what they are really after is to use the incident to stir up still more trouble. The Negroes don’t matter; they’re just a means to an end.”

Doesn’t that seem like what another American political party is still doing?

Taking Your Medicine

Just what the doctor ordered.

This week The Wall Street Journal published “Is Government Health Insurance Cheap?” It was written by a recent head of Medicare and Medicaid and a former U.S. assistant secretary of health.

The essence of their article regards the assumption government run health insurance has lower overhead costs than does private insurance (per the Socialists). The authors discuss four fundamental differences the way the two systems approach patient care, which in turn affects overheads. One difference is the way fraud is managed and accounted for.

First, Medicare has nearly no anti-fraud budget. Since fraud does not impact Medicare’s profit (Medicare is basically a non-profit organization), they don’t spend much to fight it.

Second, Medicare does not account for fraud, it accounts for payments made in error. Subsequently, these payments are not overhead, just plain old payments.

So beware the snake oil salesman.

GIT ER DONE

Our time now!

Will reading blogs, listening to talk radio, and voting conservative get the results you want? Will it change the direction of the government currently undertaken by the liberals in Washington? Will it return the economic and individual freedoms you once thought were automatically part of being an American?

The bad news is the answer is no. It just does work that way, at least with the opponents we face.

Reading blogs (such as this one) and listening to talk radio builds conservative networking and lets us share ideas. Voting against liberals is good citizenship, but we often do not have a conservative choice to make us proud. When you think about it, the bad news is not all that bad.

The good news is we face these opponents together and we are becoming stronger and more united each day. The better news is we have more resources than they have. We are the producers. We generate the wealth and provide the jobs. They cannot survive forever without us.

So now we need to git er done.

Today is tax day, April 15. There are tea parties in every nook and cranny in the country. The people organizing the tea parties are not allowing politicians to speak. They are telling the politicians to listen. Some will, some won’t. Does not matter. What matters is we are changing our priorities. We no longer believe we can go to work each day, build a great country, and then trust Republicans to represent us. That change in priorities is important. Liberals made politics their top priority for decades, while conservatives made production of goods and services theirs. Now we will spend some of our money and energy on shaping politics. As with most things we do, we will succeed.

The conservative activist movement is new. We will learn as we go. We will do many things differently than the liberals. But we will do some of the same things, too. Like the liberals, we will spend time and money.

We will network amongst fellow conservatives. We will do our research so to speak intelligently when discussing important issues with nonbelievers. We will not make sweeping feel-good declarations as if that is the truth which all must believe.

We will work the grassroots to find, encourage, and support conservatives in quest of political office. Some of us will actually run for office. Just like Sarah Palin first ran, coming from the conservative grassroots level. We will not blindly support any old Republican running for office.

We will donate to causes which advocate for our conservative agenda. We will not donate to Republican candidates who are not conservative.

We will attempt many other things. Some will succeed and some will not. But we will learn from our mistakes like we do in our productive endeavors. That will make us smarter, stronger, and winners.

We will GIT ER DONE!

Mr. Head's Two CentsMr. Head’s Two Cents - Mr. Head has started a web site about his local U.S. Representative, Alan Grayson. Mr. Grayson is a freshman Democrat of the big spender persuasion. The web site is called GraysonWatch.org. The purpose is to create a repository of tax payer abuse which will be available for a future conservative challenging Mr. Grayson in 2010. Mr. Head will make the technology available for other conservatives wishing to do the same in their district.

Do the Right Thing

CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN!

Since the inauguration of President Obama, the United States has experienced a rash of gun and knife violence. Some folks may believe the best thing to do is outlaw handguns and kitchen utensils. That only deals with the symptom. We need to treat the underlying cause of the disease: The Obama Administration.

We must all agree the people of this great country cannot continue to suffer the devastating increases in unemployment since Mr. Obama became President. As a diverse nation, we may not agree on all important issues facing this compassionate community of ours, but surely we can agree President Obama’s depressing economic rhetoric of monumental sacrifice required of all Americans (except professional athletes and Hollywood entertainers), his reminder of the stark reality of unimaginable multi-trillion-dollar deficits (to be paid off by children not yet born), his determination to rid the country of its nuclear arsenal (to prove our moral authority) while enemies ramp up theirs, are just a few of the stressful elements causing some of our fellow Americans to fall deeply into depression and despair. To lose hope.

In his Inaugural Address, President Obama stated “our time of standing pat, of protecting narrow interests and putting off unpleasant decisions - that time has surely passed. Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America.”

Mr. Obama told us during his speech to the Democrat National Convention last summer “Individual responsibility and mutual responsibility - that’s the essence of America’s promise.”

Following his own words, President Obama must take responsibility for what he has wrought and make one of those personal sacrifices of which he is always reminding us. Resign the Office of the President. For the good of the country. After all, his has some skin in this game, too.
