The Hatchet Man

Main Street's Dark Shadow

President Obama will propose mandatory, across-the-board spending cuts to compensate for new spending that would increase the federal government’s budget deficit. What a great idea!

Not to be confusing, but candidate Obama went on record during the third debate with John McCain last fall with this bit of wisdom:

“Well, look, I think that we do have a disagreement about an across-the-board spending freeze. It sounds good. It’s proposed periodically. It doesn’t happen.”

“And, in fact, an across-the-board spending freeze is a hatchet, and we do need a scalpel, because there are some programs that don’t work at all. There are some programs that are underfunded. And I want to make sure that we are focused on those programs that work.”

In Plane Sight

On Wings of Angels

The Detroit auto company CEO’s utilized their corporate jets to meet with congress. Tisk tisk. The big bank CEO’s meet with congress and are made to confess to the high crime of corporate jetting. Tisk tisk.

Nancy Pelosi has a corporate jet, the C-20A/B, a military versions of the Gulfstream III. It is part of the 89th Airlift Wing based at Andrews Air Force Base.

Do as I say, not as I do.

American Idol Cancelled?

World of Poetry - circa 1954

There are rumors the Obama Administration will support legislation to assist the country’s bitter clingers with a reduction to their unsophisticated cultural tendencies. The bill introduced to the House yesterday by Speaker Pelosi includes replacing American Idol with European operas and classical symphonies. Some legislators intend to offer an amendment to substitute World of Poetry for Wheel of Fortune. The estimated cost of the cultural stimulus is $34.8 billion.

With the implementation of the Fairness Doctrine imminent, Mr. Rush Limbaugh is said to have his agent inquiring about hosting the venerable World of Poetry program. A permanent host has been sought since the death of Charlton Heston last April.

Walking the Tightrope

The Great Obama!
If your overriding goal is reelection as president, the strategy is simple; a strong economy. People vote their pocketbooks and wallets.

Unfortunately for President Obama, he has other goals. He wants to remake America into a central government society and economy. A lot of socialism and market intervention, along with a lot less individual rights and responsibilities. Replacing American ingenuity, inventiveness, and ambition with a slacker and dependence mentality will be a great trick if he can pull it off. And an even greater trick if he sells it to the voters.

Confidence

Ugly
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 9625 on election day, November 4, 2008. Through the close of the markets on February 12, 2009, the economy has shown its confidence in Mr. Obama by dropping 17.6 percent, to 7933.

(For the uninitiated, the stock market reflects anticipated events of three to six months into the future. Therefore, Mr. Obama inherited the ups and downs of the stock market since election day. It has been his market.)

To Serve Your Country

The Real U.S. Mint
Why would anybody want to be a United States Senator making $158,100 per year, when they could make $5.2 million in four years in the private sector?

($158,100 was the annual salary for Senator Tom Daschle when the citizens of South Dakota decided not to renew his contract in 2004. $5.2 million is the approximate earnings of Mr. Daschle as a productive member of the working class since he vacated his Senate office on January 3, 2005.)
