Mac’s Notebook - Entry 15

Unfortunately, once again I am unable to feed you my weekly dog words of wisdom. My pack leader was willing to take a few minutes to translate this. He is busy finishing some computerware (Ed. Note: He means working all kinds of hours to help a new client.) One thing I have picked up during this last week, Vista is not nice. (Ed. Note: He means Vista works poorly as a simple file server.)

Thanks for your time, but now I have to catch some rays.

Happy Capitalism

William Bradford, was a Pilgrim and the first Governor of the new colony. He wrote about their early social compacts.

“The experience that was had in this common course and condition, tried sundry years and that amongst godly and sober men, may well evince the vanity of that conceit of Plato’s and other ancients applauded by some of later times; that the taking away of property and bringing in community into a commonwealth would make them happy and flourishing; as if they were wiser than God. For this community (so far as it was) was found to breed much confusion and discontent and retard much employment that would have been to their benefit and comfort. For the young men, that were most able and fit for labour and service, did repine that they should spend their time and strength to work for other men’s wives and children without any recompense.”

“This had very good success, for it made all hands very industrious, so as much more corn was planted than otherwise would have been by any means the Governor or any other could use, and saved him a great deal of trouble, and gave far better content.”

The short version; the Pilgrims tried socialism and it did not work, then they tried capitalism and it worked.

I am unable to feed you my weekly dog words of wisdom.  My pack leader was willing to take a few minutes to translate this.  He is very busy putting in computerware (Ed. Note: He means implementing software for a new client.)  Hopefully he will be done next week and we can get back to more important stuff!

Thanks for your time, but now I have to catch some rays.

Kick ‘em While They’re Down

Many are bashing the American automobile industry. Some are calling for the Big Three to throw in the towel and declare bankruptcy. Some are calling for a change in management since they must not know what they are doing.

The financial results for the Ford Motor Company operations outside North America from 2006 through the 3rd quarter of 2008 include: South America with a net profit of $2.848 billion, Europe with a net profit of $2.842 billion, and Asia Pacific and Africa with a net loss of $90 million.

The bottom line for the incompetent Ford management for their operations outside North America since 2006 is a net profit of $5,600,000,000. Yeah, throw the bums out!

Blog Note - November 14

Cha Cha Cha Changes

Mr. Head wants to inform the loyal readers of a few changes to words401.

First, Mr. Head has been called by The Capitalist Gods to The Free Market. While away generating capital (in order to be patriotic and step up and pay more taxes) Mr. Head will send a post back from The Free Market each Wednesday. Mr. Head’s faithful companion and sidekick Mac will continue his weekly Saturday post.

Second, after deep introspection (about 15 seconds worth), Mr. Head will return to the original calling of words401; economic, conservative, and social issues of the day. Like many Americans, Mr. Head was led into The Evil World of Politics by all the election hoopla. For this he apologizes to the loyal readers.

Mac’s Notebook - Entry 14

As posted a few weeks ago, for the most part dogs are not political animals. (Ed. Note: He still intends the pun.) Nonetheless, dogdom is sadden American voters did not find it in themselves to replace Barney and Miss Beazley as first dog (or first and second dogs) with Sam the English springer spaniel and Coco the All-American (Ed. Note: Still a mutt.).

The bottom line is, don’t blame me, I didn’t vote for the dogless one.

Thanks for your time, but now I have to catch some rays.

Jimmy Carter II

The Reign of The Kool One. Chapter 2.

“I will ask you join in the work of remaking this nation the only way it’s been done in America for two-hundred and twenty-one years — block by block, brick by brick, calloused hand by calloused hand.” Those are the words of The Kool One spoken to Americans on the night of his election victory.

Sort of minimizes everything all of us have accomplished in our lives. Jimmy Carter talked of the same purposeless Americans in his infamous “malaise speech.” To think we are getting The Kool One’s malaise speech before he is inaugurated. The man is ambitious.

The Prisoner

The Reign of The Kool One. Chapter 1.

Be careful what you wish for, you may get it.

The Kool One certainly got it. He got it by running as a militaristic tax-cutter. The most liberal United States Senator now has to govern as a centrist. The Kool One can no longer be what he is. Being President of the United States is hard enough. Having to give up ones ideology is a terrible way to live. Maybe that was the CHANGE he kept talking about.

Poll

This is totally unscientific. Yesterday, on the way home from the grocery store we decided to drive through another neighborhood to check out the campaign signs. (The development in which we live does not look kindly upon campaign yard signs.)

The totally unscientific results:

. 2 for Obama

. 8 for McCain

. 1 for Sarah!

I want to thank Wally for filling in for me last week. He did a commendable job. It is nice to know I have a backup blogger.

The presidential election is the big news these days, especially among humans. You may not know but dogs vote, too. Our votes may not be counted, but we express our feelings. Wally and I went with our pack leaders to the polls to vote early last week. If you do not know, dogs do what we call “reverse voting.” We vote against a candidate. This is how I marked my ballot.

(Ed. Note: He is not making this up. He dropped his ballot at the base of the sign. And there were only a few Obama signs in the area. Mac had to work to find one.)

Thanks for your time, but now I have to catch some rays.
