Fundamental Change

The Presidential Campaign of The Kool One. Saga Number 29.

“We need fundamental change and that’s why I’m running for president.” [Emphasis added]

The first three definitions of “fundamental” in the American Heritage Dictionary are:

. Of or relating to the foundation or base; elementary.

. Forming or serving as an essential component of a system or structure; central.

. Of great significance or entailing major change.

During a 2001 Chicago Public Radio interview The Kool One stated his views of the United States Constitution and that it “reflected the fundamental flaw of this country that continues to this day.”

The Kool One believe the United States, including its Constitution, has fundamental problems and needs fundamental change. The Kool One has been on record, or through his actions;

. Opposed The First Amendment exercise of freedom of speech or press (e.g., Joe the Plumber and the The Kool One campaign’s cancellation of all interviews with WFTV after Joe Biden flubbed the Karl Marx question).

. Opposed the Second Amendment right to keep and bear Arms (e.g., Independent Voters of Illinois/Independent Precinct Organization general candidate questionnaire, Sept. 9, 1996).

. Opposed the Fourth Amendment right against unreasonable searches and seizures (e.g., failed to condemn Ohio’s illegal record searches of Joe the Plumber).

The Kool One could use his messianic oration skills to argue these examples are not in opposition to the Bill of Rights. But then again, Joe the Plumber could tell The Kool One his beliefs just don’t seem as patriotic as paying more taxes. Joe could also tell The Kool One most Americans are sort of fond of the Constitution just the way it is and maybe we should not fundamentally change it.

Joe the Plumber

Mr. Head recommends the I’m “Joe the Plumber” Video Gallery on the McCain/Palin website. No comment needed.

I LOVE New York

New York City’s billionaire Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg has covered all the bases. He started out as a Democrat. Switch to Republican to run for mayor in 2001. Then switched to Independent last year.

One thing about the man, he is consistent about being inconsistent. Take term limits. Once he was for them, and then he was against them. He had long been a proponent of term limits, including his 2002 veto of extending the two-term limit for some officials. But when it came to him stepping down after two terms, limits did not seem like such a good idea. So he recently went to the city council and got them to overturn the law. A law passed by the voters in 1993 and reaffirmed in 1996 when the city council wanted to extend the limit to three terms.

Oh, the city council also has a problem with consistency. After 9/11, then Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani wanted to add three months to his term. The council said no deal.

Now it will be the voters turn for consistency. They can take matters into their own hands on election day and enforce the two-term limit for Mayor Bloomberg.

Mac’s Notebook - Entry 12

Hi. I’m Wally. My big brother Mac has asked me to fill in for him this week. He’s taking a short vacation to celebrate his birthday on Monday. He will be eight dog years old. But don’t let his age fool ya. He is one energetic dog. I am so proud to be able to call him by brother. (Ed. Note: Mac and Wally are not blood relations. They are step brothers, but don’t tell Wally that.) A week ago we went to the bark park and Mac runs as fast as I run. Even though people say we are “so darn cute,” our brand (Ed. Note: He means breed, which is Papillon.) is known for agility and speed and other cools things we can do if appropriately rewarded.

Thanks for your time. This has been fun. I hope I get to do it again.

Bashing Big Auto

Being the anti-American liberals (oops, progressives) they are, the antique media has been having a field day bashing Detroit’s Big Three lately. Bashing American institutions is what they do best, so it figures they would go after Big Auto. American Big Auto, that is. They don’t bash the Japanese or the German auto makers. That fits with their play book.

There is a little problem with their knocking Detroit. It shows a lack of understanding economics and the auto market.

First, Detroit designs and builds the vehicles the market demands. By 2005 nearly one-half of Americans wanted SUVs, trucks, and minivans. 49.7 percent to be exact. So our friends in the antique media expected Detroit to not offer these vehicles. Fine. So instead, Detroit could have competed with the Japanese and Germans selling only cars.

Second, the Japanese and Germans followed Detroit into the SUV, truck, and minivan markets. Toyota has SUVs, trucks, and a minivan. Nissan has SUVs, trucks, and a minivan. Honda has SUVs, a truck, and a minivan. Porsche has an SUV. BMW has SUVs. Mercedes-Benz has SUVs. VW has an SUV and a minivan. Since these are not evil American companies, they are not fodder for bashing.

Oops, almost forgot. Some of our American taxpayer funded politicians in Washington have also bashed Detroit. One is running for president.

Landslide

“How the Coming Obama Landslide Will Trump the Bradley Effect” is the title of an October 10 posting on the The Huffington Post. The Kool One has organization galore. And celebrity. And Colin Powell’s endorsement. Why bother going to the polls?

As widely reported, The Kool One also has the best campaign machine in history. CBS News’ Dean Reynolds reports, “The (Obama) national headquarters in Chicago airily dismisses complaints from journalists wondering why a schedule cannot be printed up or at least e-mailed in time to make coverage plans.”

He goes on, “The McCain folks are more helpful and generally friendly. The schedules are printed on actual books you can hold in your hand, read, and then plan accordingly. The press aides are more knowledgeable and useful to us in the news media. The events are designed with a better eye, and for the simple needs of the press corps. When he is available, John McCain is friendly and loquacious. Obama holds news conferences, but seldom banters with the reporters who’ve been following him for thousands of miles around the country. Go figure.”

And Reynolds wraps-up with this little stinker, “The McCain campaign plane is better than Obama’s, which is cramped, uncomfortable and smells terrible most of the time. Somehow the McCain folks manage to keep their charter clean, even where the press is seated.”

Anybody have the feeling Mr. Reynolds will be looking for a job come November 5?

Mr. Head wonders if the lack of cleanliness of the Obama plane and the campaign’s disregard for the well-being of the reporters will be the standard of the Obama universal health care system. Mr. Head has learned at least one British National Health Service hospital has a policy of turning over bed sheets between patients instead of changing with clean sheets.

Let Them Eat Lobster

The Presidential Campaign of The Kool One. Saga Number 28.

Like her American hoi polloi, Michelle Obama orders from room service when staying at the Waldorf-Astoria (favored by proletariats the world over). She is a hard working gal and needs nourishment. A little snack of lobster hors d’oeuvres, two whole steamed lobsters, Iranian caviar, and champagne should be enough to get her through another round of America bashing.

Mac’s Notebook - Entry 11

I don’t know if all dogs like to chase squirrels. But I do. Have since puppyhood. I usually don’t catch them. (Ed. Note: He has never caught one.) It gets frustrating sometimes, but I have the satisfaction of putting the fear of the Great Canine in them!

A few years ago I made contact with a squirrel. It got away, but there were unusual circumstances. I really can’t be blamed. (Ed. Note: It feel out of a tree and landed on top of Mac. Both he and the squirrel were stunned.)

Next week I will be on vacation. Wally will fill in for me. He’s a good dog. He means well. Please be nice to him.

Thanks for your time, but now I have to catch some rays.

Gore Under-Utilizes ACORN

Now that we know a little about the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) one has to wonder how many fraudulent votes they injected into Florida during the 2000 election.

Maybe Bush did not steal the election after all.

Root of All Evil

Unfortunately, most of the attention during a presidential campaign is focused on the Democrats and the Republicans. Once in a while one of the many other presidential candidates garners some attention. Ross Perot of the Reform Party and Ralph Nader of the Green Party and as an independent are two recent examples of minor party candidates. This year the Party for Socialism and Liberation (not to be confused with the Socialist Party of America or the Socialist Workers Party) is running Gloria La Riva as their candidate. The following are a few treats from their web site:

“The Party for Socialism and Liberation is a newly formed working class party of leaders and activists from many different struggles, founded to promote the movement for revolutionary change.”

“Capitalism - the system in which all wealth and power is held by a tiny group of billionaires and their state - is the source of the main problems confronting humanity today: imperialist war, poverty, exploitation, layoffs, unemployment, racism, sexism, lesbian/gay/bi/trans oppression, environmental destruction, mass imprisonment, unionbusting, and more.”

“Full rights for all immigrants! All undocumented immigrants and residents in the United States should have full rights and equality now. That means equal wages, benefits, union rights, voting rights, and access to free, quality education, housing and health care.”

“Reparations Now! Full compensation for the Black community. We in the Party for Socialism and Liberation agree that war, poverty and racism are the enemies we must fight. We fight the system that made them; that system has a name: capitalism. Since its inception, U.S. society has been marked by extreme racism. At least 12 million Africans were kidnapped and forcibly taken to the Americas as slaves. The capitalist economic system in the United States was built largely on the backs of slave labor. We demand that the Black community be compensated fully, with interest, for the historical racism and wrongs forced upon them by capitalism. The wealth stolen from Black people by corporations, institutions and the government must be repaid in full.”

The Party for Socialism and Liberation has more treats on the issues portion of the web site for Ms. La Riva.
