Jerry and Bill Do It Again

The second Jerry Seinfeld commercial in the $300,000,000 Microsoft Vista ad campaign has aired. The guest star is the famous, talented Bill Gates.

This ad will definitely make all Apple users throw away their MacBooks, Macs, and iMacs and head to their nearest big box electronics store to get one of those nifty Vista computers.

No need for any more Jerry and Bill ads. Job well done, guys!

A Journey to Macville

Once upon a time, a humble man living in village of Expee was in need of replacing his trusty computer. He had heard tales from vistas far and near about the ghastly new operating system mandated by King William. There were cries from the subjects, but King William had contempt for them. King William summoned his roundtable and all agreed the King needed to spend $300,000,000 of his treasure to hire a famous jester and spread tales of goodness of the operating system. The jester thought King William a fool but happily took some of the treasure for his deeds. As decreed by King William, the jester told all the world the operating system was moist and chewy and all the problems were of their own making.

The humble man was not an indentured servant of the King. He packed his family, animals, and computer files and journeyed to the town of Macville in the Apple Kingdom. King Steven of Apple was in tune with the needs and wants of his subjects. One week after moving to Macville the man received a visit from King Steven’s postmaster. The postmaster presented the man with his new printer rebate check. Life was better for the man, his animals, and his computer files.

Painful. Like watching a train wreck.

The End is Near

In an August 22 post, Mr. Head stated his next computer will be a Mac. Mr. Head has been milking Dellmonico (Dell laptop running Windows XP) for a while. The battery died many months ago even though Dellmonico ran off AC power about 99.9 percent of the time. In the last few days Dellmonico has refused to download anything from the web: pictures, email attachments, program updates, you name it. Dellmonico is throwing out Script Error warnings for just about everything.

Dellmonico has been a trusty companion for these last three years, and he has earned his retirement. Mr. Head has an appointment at the Apple store for tomorrow. Rest assured Mr. Head has words401 service non-disruption plans in place.

When All Else Fails

Jerry Seinfeld has been hired as a pitchman for a $300,000,000 Microsoft Vista ad campaign.

Use a comic to hawk your software.

Good idea when the software lacks technical merits.

Mr. Head recently did a test to find out how long it takes to shut down three operating systems: Windows XP Pro, Windows Vista Business, and Mac OS X Leopard. The time for Mr. Head’s XP was 1:14. The time for Mrs. Head’s Vista was 1:22. The time for the Apple store’s MacBook Pro was 0:04.

Mr. Head’s next computer will be an Apple.

Wow!

The Presidential Campaign of Barack Obama. Saga Number 10.

The legacy media is gaga over the rumor Senator Obama is going to announce his vice presidential selection via text messaging.

How cool!

The best reason yet to vote for him.

The New Bully

After years of being maligned as the world’s big bully, by anti-Americans in both the United States and the larger world community, the United States of America now finds itself in the number two spot. The torched has been passed. Russia’s invasion of Georgia, without United Nations resolutions sanctioning the acts of aggression, clearly knocks the United States from the pinnacle of evil states. Americans will have to live with being second best.

On a positive note, Americans may now travel the world comforted knowing fellow world citizens no longer hate them as much as before.

Desperation at Last

Microsoft and AOL talking merger. It’s a great fit. Two incompetents coming together to create one bigger incompetent.

Where’s the Vista?

Windows Vista is a disappointment and dreadful operating system. How can a software company with so much money produce such poor software?

The K.I.S.S. principle must not be observed at Microsoft.

Remember Windows 98; one version offered. Nice and simple. Windows XP; two versions offered. Oops. Windows Vista; four versions offered. Sad.

Start-up and shut-down. These simple processes should be getting shorter. The software engineers should have a great deal of accumulated knowledge about operating systems after 20ish years in the business. The first principle of software design is three seconds. After three seconds the user’s attention wonders. Very few processes should take more than three seconds. Updating a 10,000 record database maybe takes longer. But minutes to display a simple desktop screen and a few icons!? Yikes.

Lack of competition is a dangerous thing.
