Poll

This is totally unscientific. Yesterday, on the way home from the grocery store we decided to drive through another neighborhood to check out the campaign signs. (The development in which we live does not look kindly upon campaign yard signs.)

The totally unscientific results:

. 2 for Obama

. 8 for McCain

. 1 for Sarah!

Landslide

“How the Coming Obama Landslide Will Trump the Bradley Effect” is the title of an October 10 posting on the The Huffington Post. The Kool One has organization galore. And celebrity. And Colin Powell’s endorsement. Why bother going to the polls?

As widely reported, The Kool One also has the best campaign machine in history. CBS News’ Dean Reynolds reports, “The (Obama) national headquarters in Chicago airily dismisses complaints from journalists wondering why a schedule cannot be printed up or at least e-mailed in time to make coverage plans.”

He goes on, “The McCain folks are more helpful and generally friendly. The schedules are printed on actual books you can hold in your hand, read, and then plan accordingly. The press aides are more knowledgeable and useful to us in the news media. The events are designed with a better eye, and for the simple needs of the press corps. When he is available, John McCain is friendly and loquacious. Obama holds news conferences, but seldom banters with the reporters who’ve been following him for thousands of miles around the country. Go figure.”

And Reynolds wraps-up with this little stinker, “The McCain campaign plane is better than Obama’s, which is cramped, uncomfortable and smells terrible most of the time. Somehow the McCain folks manage to keep their charter clean, even where the press is seated.”

Anybody have the feeling Mr. Reynolds will be looking for a job come November 5?

Mr. Head wonders if the lack of cleanliness of the Obama plane and the campaign’s disregard for the well-being of the reporters will be the standard of the Obama universal health care system. Mr. Head has learned at least one British National Health Service hospital has a policy of turning over bed sheets between patients instead of changing with clean sheets.

Root of All Evil

Unfortunately, most of the attention during a presidential campaign is focused on the Democrats and the Republicans. Once in a while one of the many other presidential candidates garners some attention. Ross Perot of the Reform Party and Ralph Nader of the Green Party and as an independent are two recent examples of minor party candidates. This year the Party for Socialism and Liberation (not to be confused with the Socialist Party of America or the Socialist Workers Party) is running Gloria La Riva as their candidate. The following are a few treats from their web site:

“The Party for Socialism and Liberation is a newly formed working class party of leaders and activists from many different struggles, founded to promote the movement for revolutionary change.”

“Capitalism - the system in which all wealth and power is held by a tiny group of billionaires and their state - is the source of the main problems confronting humanity today: imperialist war, poverty, exploitation, layoffs, unemployment, racism, sexism, lesbian/gay/bi/trans oppression, environmental destruction, mass imprisonment, unionbusting, and more.”

“Full rights for all immigrants! All undocumented immigrants and residents in the United States should have full rights and equality now. That means equal wages, benefits, union rights, voting rights, and access to free, quality education, housing and health care.”

“Reparations Now! Full compensation for the Black community. We in the Party for Socialism and Liberation agree that war, poverty and racism are the enemies we must fight. We fight the system that made them; that system has a name: capitalism. Since its inception, U.S. society has been marked by extreme racism. At least 12 million Africans were kidnapped and forcibly taken to the Americas as slaves. The capitalist economic system in the United States was built largely on the backs of slave labor. We demand that the Black community be compensated fully, with interest, for the historical racism and wrongs forced upon them by capitalism. The wealth stolen from Black people by corporations, institutions and the government must be repaid in full.”

The Party for Socialism and Liberation has more treats on the issues portion of the web site for Ms. La Riva.

A Better Idea

“COUNTRY FIRST” is the official campaign slogan for Senator McCain.

“CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN” is the official campaign slogan for Senator Obama. When contemplating the CHANGE Senator Obama wants to bring to Washington and the country, a more appropriate slogan for his supporters may be “ME FIRST.”

What About…

The Presidential Debates. Two down and one to go. Or was the second debate a rerun of the first debate? The financial crisis and the Middle East conflicts. Both are important, but rehashing the same things is boring.

Maybe the final debate could cover some new ground. Here are some topics American voters may be interested in hearing the views of the two candidates:

. Illegal immigration

. Eliminating the Department of Education

. Tort reform

. Nominations for Supreme Court Justices

. First Amendment right to free speech

. Second Amendment right to bear arms

. Radio’s Fairness Doctrine

. Employee Free Choice Act (removes secret ballots for union elections)

. Implementing federal budget presidential line-item veto

. The flat tax and the fair tax

Since most of the above usually are not part of the candidates’ stump speeches it could make for engaging television.

Stepping Up

In the last day or so, the selection of PBS anchor Gwen Ifill to be the moderator of the vice presidential debate tonight between Senator Biden and Governor Palin has raised many eyebrows.

Ms. Ifill has written a book to be published on inauguration day, January 20, 2009. “The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama,” touted online by Doubleday with Ifill “surveys the American political landscape, shedding new light on the impact of Barack Obama’s stunning presidential campaign and introducing the emerging young African American politicians forging a bold new path to political power.” Ms. Ifill says her impartiality should not be questioned. Her having worked at NBC News, The New York Times, and the Washington Post backs up that claim.

Nonetheless, Governor Palin will be debating Senator Biden and Ms. Ifill this evening. This is one of those make-or-break situations for the Governor. She has the opportunity to turn a negative into a positive. If she can’t maybe she is not as good as many conservatives believe.

Maybe the Governor will say something along these lines: “Senator Biden, in the interest of the unity Senator Obama speaks so often, I find it surprising you did not call for the replacement of Ms. Ifill with a moderator without a horse in this race!”

The Real Sarah Palin

It has been seventeen days since Senator McCain announced his choice of Governor Palin as his Republican running mate. Since then, the official and unofficial (liberal media) Democrat organization has been researching Governor Palin’s public and personal personas. To be the utmost professionals we know them to be, these operatives have included every aspect of the Governor’s personal life. Nothing is beyond intense investigation. History note: this is in contrast to the press that ignored President Roosevelt’s paralysis.

The following list includes intimate, juicy details about the Palins the wily operatives have uncovered and are waiting to release at opportune moments:

. Governor Palin has five husbands.  They all look alike. The public face of the family is Todd Palin, one of five identical quintuplets.

. Governor Palin is a commie.  She is the second highest official in the Venezuelan Marxist movement. She travels to Venezuela using the pseudonym of Caracas Rosa.

. Governor Palin is not a real person. She is an avatar using a new three dimensional technology. The avatar is controlled by Dick Cheney.

. Governor Palin’s husband Todd (one of five) is not a five time world snowmobile champion. Mr. Palin is a seven time world snowmobile champion, three time world logrolling champion, and winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature for his book Here Moosie, Moosie, Moosie!

Obama 57

Coincidences happen. During the 2004 presidential campaign, the Democrat candidate John Kerry was married to Teresa Heinz Kerry. The same Heinz as the popular Heinz 57 Varieties slogan of the H. J. Heinz Company. Earlier this year the Democrat candidate Barack Obama told an audience he had campaigned in 57 states. Spooky.

The reporters covering the 2008 campaign are at the top of their profession. That is why they are relentless in having Senator Obama name all 57 states. Assuming Senator Obama approves of the usual 50 states most Americans have come to know and love, what are the names of those other seven states?

Here is a possible list:

. New Michelle
. Husseinland
. North Trinity
. Organizin
. Alinsky
. West Kenya
. Messianic

Home Sweet Home

The Obama campaign changed their web site recently. In order to continue beyond the home page a visitor must provide an email address or ZIP code. Seems a little Orwellian. Or maybe Obamian.

The McCain campaign leaves visitors unhindered to frolic about on their web site. A nice touch.
